Mit drei Worten: „Nutzen statt besitzen“ kann man das Prinzip der Bibliothek der Dinge beschreiben.

Diese Nutzung endet nicht bei Büchern, sondern beinhaltet eine große Vielfalt von Gebrauchsgegenständen wie Planschbecken, Astschere, oder Cocktail Shaker. Die Idee des Teilens von Ressourcen ohne sie in jedem Haushalt anschaffen zu müssen vereint verschiede Aspekte von Gerechtigkeit: Soziale Gerechtigkeit, weil für einen geringen Mitgliedsbeitrag viele, oft teure, Alltagsgegenstände genutzt werden können; und ökologische Gerechtigkeit, weil bedachter mit Ressourcen umgegangen wird, wenn nicht jede*r eine oft nur selten genutzte Bohrmaschine anschaffen muss.

Die Bibliothek der Dinge Bochum verfolgt dieses Ziel in Form einer gGmbH seit 2020. Sie ist damit keine einfache Erweiterung einer kommunalen Bibliothek, sondern eine Initiative die sich gezielt der praktischen Umsetzung des alternativen Wirtschaftens verschrieben hat. An ihrem Standort Auf dem Anger 1 in Bochum Nord stehen aktuell X Gegenstände bereit um ausgeliehen zu werden. Über die Software myturn werden alle Gegenstände in einem digitalen Ausleih-Katalog verwaltet und können über einen Barcode identifiziert werden.

Am 5. Februar 2024 hatten wir die Chance im Supermarkt der Ideen mit Najine Ameli, einer der Initiatorinnen der Bibliothek der Dinge Bochum, über die Entwicklung der „Bibliothek der Dinge“ Bewegung zu sprechen. Die Entstehung und Ausstattung der Bibliothek der Dinge in Bochum schuf interessante Anknüpfungspunkte für ähnliche Nutzungen im 2025 umgebauten Supermarkt der Ideen, oder ein mögliches neues Projekt in der Oberhausener Innenstadt.

The principle of the Library of Things can be described in four words: “Use instead of own”.

This use does not end with books, but includes a wide variety of everyday items such as paddling pools, pruning shears and cocktail shakers. The idea of sharing resources without having to buy them in every household combines various aspects of justice: social justice, because many, often expensive, everyday objects can be used for a small membership fee; and ecological justice, because resources are used more carefully if not everyone has to buy a drill that is often only rarely used.

The Library of Things Bochum has been pursuing this goal in the form of a gGmbH since 2020. It is therefore not a simple extension of a municipal library, but an initiative that is specifically dedicated to the practical implementation of alternative management. At its location Auf dem Anger 1 in Bochum Nord, X items are currently available to be borrowed. All items are managed in a digital lending catalog using the myturn software and can be identified using a barcode.

On February 5, 2024, we had the chance to talk to Najine Ameli, one of the initiators of the Library of Things Bochum, about the development of the “Library of Things” movement in the Supermarket of Ideas. The creation and equipment of the Library of Things in Bochum created interesting starting points for similar uses in the Supermarket of Ideas, which will be converted in 2025, or a possible new project in Oberhausen's city center.
